There’s a serial ****** in my neighborhood?

In the past 3 months, nine women in my neighborhood have been *****. The guy is breaking in on them in the early morning hours before daylight.
Normally, I wouldn’t be scared but my husband is leaving town for a week for work and it will just be me here. We rent and our house has no home security system or anything.
We do have 2 dogs, but they’re not very threatening looking. I’m thinking about borrowing my brother’s rottie for precaution during the week my husband is out of town.
Other than this, what are some precautions I can take? Any hints or tips to keep people away?
I’ve never handled a gun before in my life and we have 2 very small children in the home. A gun is, really, not an option for us at all, but thanks for the suggestion.

For self defence, perhaps a gun would be helpful.

motion detector flood lights on all sides of the home. Yes, get the big bad dog! And a gun in the nighstand too. Assuming you are trained to use it.

the dog is a good idea, and there is always other forms of self defense (mace, taiser, gun…) but if your really worried you should try and find a safe place that you can stay for a week until your husband comes back
go and steal one of those signs that says “this house is protected by…” and stick it in your yard

keep a gun/tazer/peper spray or somthing by ur bed make sure to lock all windows and doors get a sercurity system… lol buy a gaurd

Out side lights. Lights around a house will stop almost any one from breaking in.
And by law you can shoot some one who breaks into your house. But if they run out of your house and you shoot them once there out your door youll be charged with murder. Plus most people who have guns for pertection arnt even prepared to use em.
Ha just have a few balloons and pop 1 or 2 if you think some ones in your house. The sound of what sounds like a gun going off will send any burglar/rapest running.
Most burglars/rapest wont break windows to get into a house cause its so loud. They try to find a open window or unlocked door. Dont keep any keeys out side cause 99% of people keep spare keys really close to the door location.

My first thought was to just stay with someone else for the week. Flood lights and lights on motion detectors is good. You can contact your local police department and request for “extra patrol”, though they are probably already doing this. The dog is another good idea.
The gun suggestions is not a good idea. Someone who has little to no experience using a firearm will most likely have it taken from them and used against them.

I also agree to get a gun for self defense. Make sure all your door’s are locked and I recommend that you get home alarm in the next 2 days or so and if you fell the tiniest suspicious call the police right away away.

A gun for you like you said is unrealistic, not to mention you need to get licensing and all of that. Pepper Spray however is realistic. Rapists like women and men who won’t fight back! If by chance something did happen and you sprayed him it shows he picked the wrong target and will disable him if used correctly.
Keep a phone by you too. Stay calm and after you spray him call 911. Establish a plan and think of what could happen in your head and how you should react, this way you aren’t taken totally by surprise if god forbid it happens. Being prepared is always the best option. Lock your windows and doors as most people who break in actually get through unlocked windows and doors. Lock even the upstairs ones too!
5Star is also completely wrong on the gun laws. Each State has different laws for what is right and what is not.

Dont get a gun people accidently get killed, get a adt security system like I have in my home. protect your family.

I think a home security system would be well worth the expense! I suggest checking out SpyTown.com. My husband and I recently purchased a security system for our new home from this site.
