No. There are several companies that give a free alarm system but you pay the monthly fee. You can’t expect the people that buy your house to agree to pay off the contract that is under your name…you are responsible for that.

Most RE purchase contracts have a section that deals with security systems or satellite dishes. Since they are relatively inexpensive, I’d leave the system in place as a selling point, and the new owners can assume the remaining terms of the contract. Check with the security company about how this is accomplished, some charge a ridiculous fee to transfer service to a new owner.

If it is wired or attached to the house, you CANNOT take it with you…it is part of the real estate.

This is the same issue for satallite dishes.

Just because your company does it doesn’t mean it flies in a real estate contract.

In all honesty, taking it with you would be generally more hassle than its worth. Alarm installation is getting cheaper and cheaper these days. So it may be more monetarily feasible to have a new alarm system installed when you reach your new intended destination. You will end up with a new alarm that may not have the limitations of the old one. The contract should be transferable to the new owners of the house and could indeed be a selling point in this day and age.

plus you’ll get charged for moving so whats the point in paying extra..??
and it’d be better because if someone buys it they may want the alarm included!!

If it’s attached to the house, you really can’t remove it, it becomes a “fixture”. Use it as a selling point and make sure IN THE CLOSING CONTRACT it’s in there that they take over the contract.

Otherwise you’re stuck with paying on it. This happened to my aunt with a water softerner system. She left it in the house (it was installed and could not be removed), the new owners threw the bills out and she was stuck paying a collection agency.
