Get an attack alligator, no seriously I would move if the area is bad, I’ll bet it was some punk teenager that lives close to you

You have to forget about it. you cannot live your life in fear.

  3. The Original RP McMurphy Says:

Buy a gun and shoot the next intruder. Make sure you get off a kill shot, you don’t want the criminal to end up a vegetable and have his loving family sue you for everything since you hurt their “fine boy”.

you can’t just get over it…..it takes time

  5. M v Says:

You don’t. But what you have done is excellent. After such a tragic event you never get over it, but you do learn how to deal with it better as time goes on.

    Buy a gun.

Small dog! Get a yappy small dog, statistics show that burglars **** small dogs more than big dogs or alarms due to the ruckus they make, our home was burglarized several times till we got a small dog, no more problems.

Move if you are that scared. Otherwise, your security system should do the trick. Also, get a dog, even a sweet dog can warn you of intruders by barking or even protecting you if they feel you are in danger.

For instance, I have the cutest pup, but if i “play fight” with another person my dog freaks out and tries to protect me. Its adorable.

Just know that the chances of you getting robbed in the first place are sooooooo low, and the fact that it happened– the chances of it happening again are lower than that. Kind of a lightning doesn’t strike in the same place twice thing. And in all serious, I have to say purchase a firearm. I mean don’t keep it under your pillow or anything, but if you have one you will feel safer. It’s also a good idea to take firearm safety classes if you don’t know how to properly shoot/maintain a gun.

And if that doesn’t work PM me for my #, i’ll come over and take out any intruder! :)

It will take time. Your privacy has been violated and that is difficult to recover from. You could ask the alarm company to make some frequent checks of your system at first because it will make you more secure in feeling that it will work. Also talk to your local police department. They will have lots of ideas for making your home look less inviting to thieves, things like leaving no mail in the box, how to position timed lights, keeping blinds and windows closed, and what kinds of locks are best for doors and windows. good luck!

You probably never will. When I was younger I was spending the night with a friend in my parents caravan which was on their driveway. During the night someone tried to break in while we were in it. It was very frightening. This was about 10 years ago now. I now live with my partner and I still get frightened. You just have to remember that you have the alarm and if someone does try to break in, the sound of the alarm will scare them away.

I read some of the answers and think the “attack gator” was pretty funny and I bet it would work but you can’t do that.

You can’t move because of it either. Robberies can happen anywhere. I just moved into a really nice subdivison in rural Michigan to find out after that more than 12 neighborhood houses have been broken into here. On January 12th, another house was broken into also. I am a little ticked that I wasn’t told that ahead of time but what can you do, right?

I have since aquired a large Lab who will bite strangers and am looking into an alarm. I am not keeping money in the house and bought new locking systems for my exterior doors. Some of the robberies here are happening during the day so, I’ve been working more out of my house than leaving lately. I am awaiting my turn to be robbed so, I can grab whoever it is up. He’ll have something very scary to deal with, which is me.

It’s only been a week since your robbery so, I am sure it will take a little more time to get over but you will be okay after a while. As time goes by, it will not be on your mind so much.

It has been my experience that 99.9% of break and enters occur when people are not home, therefore your alarm system is your best defence against a re-occurrence.

Here in Canada, the only justification for shooting someone is if you have a reasonable fear of serious bodily harm or death. You need to think about this before you shoot a unarmed 15yr old boy holding your dvd player. Here in Canada you would be held accountable for any excessive use of force.

In the UK its very common once a household has been burgled, and the items replaced with new items for them to be targeted again.

You have done the right thing thing having an alarm fitted, we have victim support the information is supplied by the Police who investigate the crime.

Do you not have a similar scheme, as they may be able to offer some kind of counseling/advice.

We also used to have crime prevention officers who come out ans ***** the security of your home, checking window locks and alarms, and offer advice on how to mark your property and natural deterrents like prickly plants under windows to stop prowlers.

Sorry about your ordeal, I am married to a Police Officer and we got bugled while we slept:(
