I’m home alone and really really scared?
kit asked:
I’m visiting my dad in another province. the oors and windows dont lock. there is only one door. the windows are too high to jump from. there is no alarm system. every day, at 4:30 am, my dad goes to work. I am home alone. I get so, so scared it is unbeleivable. there is nobody around her i know. when my dad goes to sleep at night, i swear I hear people… i cant go to sleep until he’s awake. How can I feel safer??? I dont want someone to tell me “not to worry” or whatever. That just doesnt work. I worry anyways. Please Please Please help me.
im only here for one month, pets arent allowed, i CANT relax… (literally. i think theres something wrong with me) i dont have any friends here yet, and i cant be long distance all the time…

Its all in your mind, you just feel uncomfortable being in a new place. Try to feel my comfortable and get used to your surroundings.

I think you have every right to feel a bit scared. No one can predict what people will do now a days unfortunately. It sounds like you may have mentioned this briefly to your father, maybe just in passing. I feel like you should sit him down and really express to him how uncomfortable/terrified you are. If he’s unwilling to add just a tiny bit of security (atleast locks on the door and windows), I would contact your mom/guardian and request to come back home until he’s willing to make his home safer for you. Best of luck.. I wish I could make you feel better!

Hi Kit,
Are you up in Canada ? I lived up there a bit in the 70′s when I was a kid. Things were not like that in the 70′s. Everybody was friendly and things were safe. Any way, You seem old enough to earn a little money doing some thing ? Maby dad’s not cool with the idea of you working, especially if you’re still a junior, I mean still in school, right ?
The solution is quite simple you gotta convince dad that you need at least 1 lock on the door and that he needs to make the windows safe. Tell him it can’t cost more than $ 100. dollars (Canadian) and if he loves you he’ll do it cause you’re freeking out. If he’s still unwilling, cook him or fix him his favourite sandwitch or something from the fridge if there’s something there and sweeten him up for the punch. Tell him you’ll try to raise some of the money and see what he says. Betcha it works. If you’re a girl, try to baby sit some kid for $1.00 per hour or mow some lawn or wash somebody’s car or something for a little cash.
Good luck and write us back to tell us how it’s going.
God bless ya.

Hey Kit.
Maybe this seems like a dumb suggestion, but why don’t you go to work with your dad and hang out with him during the day? Just tell him that you’re freaked out. You could do some paperwork for him and grab some lunch together. After you spend a full day having fun, you’ll be exhausted and your mind will be filled with awesome memories- no room or time to think about other scary things! My guess is you’ll fall right asleep.

Can you get your friends on the phone?
Or maybe you can have a mattress in your dad’s room, nothing creepy but his presence might help.
