How can you protect your home in a third-world country?
—–? asked:
I need some suggestions. I know some people who’ve been robbed four times in the recent months (with the global crisis and all). They live in a really small home made of some bricks AND lots of wood with many holes (as they don’t have glass windows). I guess the best thing to get would be some kind of security alarm for when someone opens either of their two doors when no one is around or during the night. It would at least scare away the burglars (and they’re pretty certain it’s just someone/some people from their neighborhood block).

Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone know any heavy-duty alarms I can purchase?
PS – It’s a third-world country, police won’t go very far for you when you’re poor… at least over there.
Other tips would be greatly appreciated.
*My budget is kind of low too.
By “low”, I mean a few hundred is all I have at the moment.

I would suggest your friends to report you how the burglars are making it into the house — then focus on fixing those problems/areas — and also improve their relationship with the neighborhood to help detect the thiefs! The house needs to be secure by itself in first place, an alarm just makes it more difficult for the burglars to have enough time to break in.
If you decide to buy an alarm, there are several DIY burglar alarm kits – just buy the appropiate sensors (infrared, magnetic)
Or get them a dog

wire it up to electricute the intruder
get a big dog
get a gun
hire a hit man
hide all the good stuff somewhere else
cross bow
